SPIRITUAL REPRODUCTION (Part 2)

May 8, 2017

Transition planning at the executive is much like what scripture calls "Disciple making”. Both involve a developmental relationship. This is where a Mentor invests and develops a willing and qualified apprentice. In ministry, the mentor not only matures as well, but also becomes a multiplying Christian.

Several Thought Provoking Question:

  • What do you possess that you can pass on?

  • Do you know of any people who could benefit from your experience?

  • In a church setting, although you are not perfect, would you commit to multiplying at least one spiritual discipline or quality in someone else?

The Original Blueprint

Jesus modeled for us a lifestyle of spiritual reproduction. His Hebrew based method relied upon "on the job training" in real-life contexts. This master mentor would conceptualize instruction in a real-life context. He would use farmers in the field and Kings on the throne to teach leadership principle.

Note Jesus' IDEA of spiritual reproduction:

I - Instruction in a Real-Life Context

D - Demonstration in a Real-Life Context

  • He not only taught them in parables, but he was also always showing them.

  • He was visualizing.

  • He was literally incarnating, fleshing out truth before them.

  • As they watched, they begin to want to know more about God.

E - Exposure in a real-life context

  • It's where Jesus would take the disciples and they would go out and they would try it.

  • Jesus would take them out to a boat and let the storm hit.

  • Jesus would tell them to feed the 5,000.

A - Accountability or Assessment in a Real-Life Context

Once a real-life situation was captured, he would demonstrate the principle taught in a real-life context. He not only taught them in parables, but he was also always showing them. He was visualizing. He was literally incarnating; fleshing out truth before them. As His mentees watched, they begin to grow and want to know more about God. To prove learning, the next step is exposure in a real-life context.

In this setting the mentor takes the mentee and places them into situations in order for them to try actualize lessons taught. Lastly, and of most importance is accountability or assessment in a real-life context. After they tried it and after they experimented, they came back and they talked about it. Proper evaluation is essential to maximize growth.

Disciple-Making Involves a Developmental Relationship

This is where a mature Christian invests and mentors a willing apprentice. In this manner he or she not only matures as well, but also becomes a multiplying Christian.

Several question to be asked.

1. What do you possess, spiritually, that you can pass on?

2. Do you know of any people who could benefit from your spiritual maturity?

3. Although you are not perfect, would you commit to multiplying at least one spiritual discipline or

    quality in someone else?

Let Me Ask You Two Questions:

  • Have you ever sat down with a more mature believer and been discipled one-on-one so that you can just grow in your Christian walk with God?

  • If you have been discipled, have you received enough strength and got your act together enough to turn around and say I want to pour my life into someone else?

As we Invest in People, We Must be Committed to Three Things:

A Person: Does this person have value or can this person accomplish what the organization needs are the types of question a mentor must answer in the affirmative. The last thing one wants to do is waste time with a person who lacks the capacity necessary for transition or, in the case of ministry, spiritual reproduction.

A Process: Most organizations of any substance have a process in place to ensure longevity. If your organization lacks a process, find one quick or develop one yourself, or use the one I just described.

A Purpose: Does your life have? The vast majority of individuals want to belong to something greater than them. I have found my purpose in Victory Outreach and I believe I am truly moving in God’s direction. Where is your purpose?
